Like Jesus, I just want something for you >>> specifically your salvation!"

[This is what I believe of our soul, or at least a good way to mentally visualize it:
A person's soul is the medium between the invisible spirit world and the physical body. The soul is the spiritual aspect of a person. The person's spirit lives within that soul. The soul also has the capacity to allow other spirits to reside within it (even if just temporarily). When GOD first placed Adam and Eve on this earth, each of them was a spirit which resided within their soul, which resided within their physical body. GOD, who can be everywhere, also resided in both Adam and Eve's souls. It was a perfectly pure marriage between body, spirit, and soul. Nothing bad existed within them and they only followed GOD's lead (via their souls).
However, when the devil tricked them into rebelling against GOD (by tempting Eve), it forced GOD out of their souls. HE is perfectly Holy, therefore cannot remain anywhere ruled by sin. That broke the spiritual connection (between their spirit and GOD), which vacated a place in their soul; allowing the devil and his demons to scam their way into many people's souls now.
As a result, a person's spirit still resides within their soul. Either the Holy Spirit (who is GOD) will also reside in the person's soul or a demon (or many demons) will also reside in that same person's soul. GOD will not occupy a soul that also has a demonic presence.
The sum of a person's soul determines that person's 'heart'. The person's heart will be holy, if GOD is there... but corrupted if GOD is not there. The heart is what is GOD cares about.
When it comes final judgement day (before GOD), our soul will be examined. A light will shine on us and there will be no denying what is in each person's soul.
If the soul is occupied by the person's spirit and the Holy Spirit... that person is saved for Eternal Life.
If the soul is occupied by the person's spirit and demon(s)... that person is contaminated... and therefore cannot enter into GOD's Kingdom of Heaven. That person is condemned (not saved) and their soul is thrown into the eternal lake of fire instead.
I don't have full clarity in this area, but believe the soul is the primary means to communicate thoughts between the spirit and physical body (our brain). Any thought we have originates within the soul; whether the spirit speaking to us is our own spirit, the Holy Spirit, or some demonic spirit. Evil thoughts and desires appear to be your own thoughts... because they are your own thoughts; only they are spoken to your brain by a demon (via your personal soul).
Without full clarity on it (only speculation), I cannot explain what happens to a demon who is present in a person's soul when that person physically dies on this earth. Whether the demon is ejected from that person's soul upon physical death (where it must find a new host) or if it remains with that person's soul after final judgement day is a mystery to me. It's possible those souls thrown into hell with a demon attached may be stuck with that demon... forever]
What s in your soul?
